Nonna, your words now echo across the world

Clementina was an extraordinary woman — strong, determined, and ahead of her time.
Born in 1890 into an aristocratic Neapolitan family, she was raised with a deep appreciation for elegance, refinement, and grace.
By the late 1930s, as fascism spread and the threat of war loomed, Clementina remained unconvinced by the regime’s propaganda. She believed Mussolini and his followers were to be kept at a distance. Foresighted and pragmatic, she began stockpiling goods, preparing for the worst.
What followed is now history: bombings, devastation, war. Yet Clementina, with unwavering strength, managed to keep her household intact — a quiet, resolute effort that ensured her family’s survival.
In the postwar years, she found herself in a shattered city. But through intelligence and resilience, she transformed hardship into opportunity. She opened a small atelier, where she employed and trained the women of her neighborhood, helping them reclaim dignity and independence. There, she taught the art of hand embroidery on soft, fine fabrics and the creation of garments that were both precious and practical: elegant enough to be admired, simple enough to be worn.
Over time, that little workshop grew into one of the most respected sartorial houses in Naples, located on Via Ponte di Tappia, just off the storied Via Toledo.

Elegance is often confused with excess and grandeur,” she would say to her daughter Lucia and granddaughters Daniela, Debora, and Miriam. “But no — elegance lies in simplicity, elevated by fine materials. True elegance is never appearance alone; it is substance.

Many years have passed, and Italy has changed. Yet Daniela and Debora chose to carry forward the legacy of their grandmother — the tradition of a sartorial philosophy rooted in excellence, grace, and craftsmanship.

In 1991, Clementina Baby was born: a brand dedicated to creating refined, hand-embroidered children’s clothing that draws from Neapolitan tailoring tradition, elevated by delicate European style.

Today, Clementina Baby is available in boutiques around the world, but every garment still tells the story of Clementina.
