Clementina was an extraordinary woman — strong, determined, and ahead of her time.

Born in 1890 into an aristocratic Neapolitan family, she was raised with a deep appreciation for elegance, refinement, and grace.

By the late 1930s, as fascism spread and the threat of war loomed, she remained unconvinced by the regime’s propaganda. Farsighted and pragmatic, she began preparing for the worst, quietly protecting her family.

What followed is now history: bombings, devastation, war. Yet Clementina managed to preserve her household with quiet strength and determination.

In the postwar years, in a shattered city, she opened a small atelier where she trained the women of her neighborhood, teaching the art of hand embroidery on fine fabrics and the making of garments that were both elegant and practical — meant to be admired, yet truly worn.

Over time, that workshop grew into one of the most respected sartorial houses in Naples, on Via Ponte di Tappia, just off the storied Via Toledo.

“Elegance is often confused with excess and grandeur,” she would say to her daughter Lucia and her granddaughters Daniela, Debora, and Miriam. “But true elegance lies in simplicity, elevated by fine materials. It is never appearance alone; it is substance.”

Many years have passed, and Italy has changed. Yet Daniela and Debora chose to carry forward their grandmother’s legacy — a sartorial philosophy rooted in excellence, grace, and craftsmanship.

In 1991, Clementina Baby was born: a brand dedicated to refined, hand-embroidered children’s clothing, inspired by Neapolitan tailoring tradition and an enduring sense of timeless elegance.

Today, Clementina Baby is present in boutiques around the world, yet every garment still carries the story of Clementina.
